2022 New Year's Eve fireworks from a whole new perspective

NYE at the Space Needle is much anticipated annual event. The tower itself becomes part of the show, known for its amazing fireworks, colorful light show and laser effects and new digital overlays for those watching on-line or on TV.

The Space Needle's new Livecam Gen 4 captured a two-minute 360-degree panoramic video of the NYE festivities from the top of the spire during a full rotation of the camera between 12:04 and 12:06 am on January 1, 2022. It's hard to beat this view, and we can only imagine the thunderous roar of so many aerial shells and pyrotechnic effects at eye-level and so close to the camera.

This was the first live NYE celebration since 2019, as events were cancelled in 2020 due to severe wind and in 2021 due to Covid-19. This year, Space Needle added an innovative augmented reality overlay to the live stream event, showcasing digitally-added images of popular Seattle-area landmarks and cultural icons.
